We are very unique. We take those that others won’t. The elderly, amputees, those on life-saving medications, disabled, and so forth. We do not take those who have harmed women and children, or violent offenders. We are always full as we take those most vulnerable and in need.
Mission: Thanks to you, we have reached a 97% success rate for our veterans in fiscal year 2016-18. Now at 98%. Our Mission is to help all in need to the best of our ability. We follow the parable of the Good Samaritan, as there are no requirements for our services. We constantly reinvent the wheel, and adapt quickly to make it work in any situation. The faces of homelessness can change as well as each individual’s circumstances. Our founder became homeless himself, and found that traditional shelters were not working, and did not address the needs of the homeless, especially Veterans. This in and of itself was discouraging, as our Veterans fought for the rights of all, not just themselves. The Founder feels that no one should lose those rights by becoming homeless. Many fought and also died for freedom in America. The Mission in Citrus operates on love and a family atmosphere. Veterans, and many others who are homeless are helped regardless of their beliefs or unique situations. Many of the homeless Veterans have given up trusting our society, and have little access to shelter and services in rural settings.

The Mission in Citrus is dedicated to helping Veterans, men, women, and children off the streets and out of the woods, into a productive environment where they can change their circumstances and once again become productive members of society. The Mission was operated by the homeless for the homeless with no paid staff since 2008. In 2015, the Mission has received funding which allowed for the hiring of part-time staff. We rely solely on donations from those with caring hearts and grants when awarded. Our shelters are open at any time for visitors, and we are dedicated to transparency as any non-profit should. We help Veterans from around the US, as many Veterans wish to relocate to Citrus County Florida.
The Mission in Citrus does not pay GreatNonprofits, Guidestar, or any other agency for our reviews or ratings. They were earned and we are able to prove our results, not just an empty paper trail. Thank you.
