Ray O’Mally 51 – US Navy 1974-84
Sadly our heroic Veterans become homeless after serving our Country.Ray lost all in Hurricane Katrina. All except his friendly dog Katrina who saved his life during the storm.Ray served in the Navy Seals from Saigon to Iraq through several conflicts. He was awarded numerous medals including two Purple Hearts, the Navy Cross, and many more.We were glad to help Ray in his time of need. Any Vet will be able to access valuable information from this page.
Mission in Citrus presently allocates 7 beds for homeless Vets. This includes two emergency beds.We are trying to raise funds for a barracks style Veterans Center which will house 20 homeless Vets. The Mission believes that Veterans should retain their dignity and respect while they are receiving treatment and help. They fought to protect us.. Why have we deserted them ? To many shelters have rules that are so strict that they may as well say…Vets not welcome…ALL Veterans are welcome at the Mission.
Henry is a 43 year old Army Vet….Still awaiting HELP…
Robert Brown is 39, and a Desert Storm Army Vet..He threatens me that he may never leave..At the Mission, we joke, we laugh, we cry..Our family setting has helped many Vets who would have never been reached..
The Mission uses Celebrate Recovery , and many other programs for treatment. Many Veterans prefer the woods. They do not like most shelters. We allow them to come in for needed services , food , or phone calls with no questions asked.
William is a 70’s era Vet who does not want attention. No he is not wanted by the law, just wants to be left alone.Last week he showed up at my door after walking three days without food. He tried to get help from another shelter and was refused..Not just shelter but also food..That is why we try to patrol county roads..And people wonder why I get angry sometimes..A donut or water..A buck…Where is the love…Not just for a soldier who served his country , but also a human who is in need..
John – Former Marine..He left when the shelter closed temporarily due to my surgery..I hope for his return someday to help…He was a good man and a big help.
They come and go..But are thankful for our services. There are many more on our residents page. At the old shelter they came from Georgia and all points North. Word gets around quick about who helps and who does not.. Soon they will all know that GOD was not done with me yet and that I survived after three months of rehab. The new shelter is bigger and better. Once I get the proper funding..Watch out… My methods and ideas are God inspired..And they work….
Pray for our homeless Vets. They were trained to fight.. They served our country with honor. Now they wander in search of hope, jobs , a home.. They did not ask for the position that they are in…Without our Veterans and the soldiers that still serve today, we would be speaking a foreign language and would have sacrificed the basic freedoms that we enjoy today..

Homeless Vets
On February 8, 2005 the Homeless Voice founded an independent agency which would advocate to the public and to members of both the U. S. Congress and Senate to make sure our soldiers of the Iraq War were taken care of this time; and to do better than we have done in the past. As we all know, there are many homeless Vets still living on the streets from the Vietnam War. We lobbied many elected officials and we are sad to say that many of them never responded, not even to say “Thank you for your letter”.
Since then, “The American Veterans Of The Iraq War” has continued to lobby in hopes that the USA will have better re-entry programs for Vets coming home, whether disabled or not.
Sean Cononie the founder said, “This time around we’ve got to do better.” He added, “With all these homeless beatings in the country, the people must realize that some of these individuals who live on the streets and are hunted and killed by teens, are Vets. He is correct.
The month of September 2008 the whole nation is watching a trial right here in our own Fort Lauderdale community, the trial of one of the most famous murders in the country. The victim was Mr. Norris Gaynor who was a U.S. Vet, and a good man, who chose to live on the streets.
